Interpreting Tenders

Local authorities and NHS trusts are the volume buyers, mostly for social care, children's services, housing and patient appointments. Police forces and courts buy interpreting for interviews and hearings. Universities and colleges buy British Sign Language and communication support for individual students, which is why some notices name a single named student rather than a service. Not much of it directly. Of 1,468 interpreting notices on record, 769 are awards and 107 are pre-tender notices, so visible activity is dominated by call-offs against existing language services agreements and by early market engagement. A supplier waiting for an open competition sees a fraction of the work. Track the frameworks and the award trail instead.

Interpreting is spoken or signed and happens live: in the room, over the phone, by video link. Translation is written. Buyers regularly combine the two in one procurement, which is why a search for interpreting work returns notices titled "Translation and Interpretation Services". Read the lot structure before deciding whether to bid the whole contract or a single lot.
