Asbestos Removal Tenders and Contracts

An asbestos removal tender is a public sector contract for surveying, removing or disposing of asbestos-containing materials, usually ahead of demolition, refurbishment or repair work. Notices are published by councils, NHS trusts, housing associations, universities and other public bodies across the UK.

Councils, housing associations, universities and NHS trusts are the main buyers, alongside other public bodies responsible for maintaining schools, housing stock and public buildings. Many run open tenders or set up framework agreements covering removal, surveying and testing work together.

Most contracts cover a combination of asbestos surveying, licensed removal and disposal, and remediation work carried out before or during a wider demolition or refurbishment project. Some are let as standalone jobs, others as part of a larger works package.

Public bodies procure asbestos removal work through open tenders, direct awards for smaller jobs, or framework agreements that cover several buyers at once. Contracts are usually awarded to specialist licensed contractors rather than general building firms.
