Greater Manchester Combined Authority are seeking a replacement product to provide resting facilities for use by firefighters for up to a 7-hour rest period. The exact product(s) have not yet been decided, we are seeking expressions of interest and guidance from the market on product availability, which should be suitable for use for rest periods of up to 7 hours. Greater Manchester Combined Authority are considering the procurement of a replacement rest facility for our firefighters, who currently use a reclining chair for this purpose. As a minimum the rest facility must meet the following criteria, GMCA reserve the right to amend/add to/remove from these criteria as we develop our specification. 1) Will meet the 122 PUWER 1998 Approved Code of Practice and guidance; 2) Will meet the 124 Workplace regulations 1992 Approved Code of Practice and guidance; 3) Will be fit for purpose for up to 7 hours continuous use; 4) Will be appropriate for all of our workforce, regardless of age, gender, body size or body shape, working opposing shift patterns; 5) Will be easy to maintain; 6) Will be easy to clean; 7) Will be operable by one person; 8) Will be robust in relation to points 3-7; 9) Will require very little training to use. The exact requirement is not yet known, as GMFRS have numerous sites with varying available space for Rest Facilities, we will consider a fixed solution for some/all of our sites. Should GMCA decide to proceed to tender, it is anticipated that we would need approximately 240 rest facilities. In order to gain a better understanding of product availability, GMCA intend to hold a market engagement event mid/late August 2020 (exact date tbc).
