Tender description

Islington were looking for an experienced contractor to design and build 2 Energy Centers, the 1st above ground to extract heat from a London Underground ventilation shaft, the 2nd below ground in a pre-existing accessible void which will include equipment to extract heat from a UKPN sub-station and connect these with the existing Bunhill Heat and Power Network and a local housing estate(the core scheme) and further potential Council and private connections (the extended scheme) depending on pending decisions. The main elements of Bunhill II comprised: — The heat pump plant (including heat exchangers and pumped distribution systems), thermal storage, pumps, ventilation, pressurisation, controls, water treatment, safety systems, etc. next to UKPN infrastructure; — The heat pump plant (including heat exchangers and ventilations systems), CHP plant (extended scheme), thermal storage, pumps, ventilation, pressurisation, controls, water treatment, safety systems, etc. at a site next to London Underground infrastructure; — Utilities (gas (LUL site only), electric, water, drainage and telecoms) necessary to operate at these 2 locations; — The District Heating network; — The District Heating connections; — Maintenance. The design and build of the of the Energy Centre and heat network was to be completed before end March 2016 and a heat supply is available to serve the connecting buildings with low carbon heat from the Energy Centre during the summer heating period 2016. Please note that works on LUL and UKPN critical infrastructure will be conducted by a third party contracted by LUL and UKPN and were not included in this tender.
