Bedford - Polhill Footpath

Tender description

The University of Bedfordshire is seeking to appoint a competent contractor to undertake the design and construction works of a footpath between the Changing rooms on the Polhill Campus and Astroturf The Employer has recently installed a floodlit Astroturf pitch on the adjacent Goldington Academy grounds. For students to access this pitch from the external changing rooms involves a circuitous route and hence the construction of a new direct footpath will make access easier. The elements of the project are as below This Project will comprise of the following elements: • To design and construct a DDA compliant footpath in compliance with Section 8 and indicated Appendices of ‘ New Road and Street Works Act 1991 Code of Practice April 2010’ involving the following operations - • To excavate soils and cart away surplus • To supply and lay concrete path edging set in concrete • To supply and compact sub-base • To supply and lay Geotextile membrane • To supply and lay new top surface. Note – Bidder can propose alternative finish(es) but the Astroturf playing surface needs to be kept as free as possible from mud, dirt and grit) • At completion of the laying of the path to reinstate soil, turf/seeding to concrete edgings • To remove and cart away old gate, fixings, posts and any necessary shrubs/trees/growth and • install a new gate (approx. 2 x1m wide) complete with heavy duty combination lock, spring return (DDA compliant), new posts, shot bolts and anchors (firmly embedded) or other device/fixing that enable the gate to be secured in both the open and closed positions.
