CAMDEN CENTRE FOR LEARNING -MAIN CONTRACTOR (Traditional)

Tender description

The London Borough of Camden seeks to appoint a Main Contractor to deliver the construction of the Camden Centre for Learning (CCfL), a specialist secondary school provision including a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) for approximately 100 students aged 11 - 16 with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties (SEBD). The construction works include the extension and refurbishment of two existing school sites (Agincourt House NW3 2NY and Chalcot School, NW1 8DP. The total estimated construction cost is £6,200,000 (maximum) to be delivered in two stages: a. Extension and remodelling of Agincourt House (estimated value £3.4M) and b. Refurbishment of Chalcot School (estimated value of £2.8M). The works are to be carried out sequentially (vacating one site at a time to allow services to operate from the other) over the period August 2013 to September 2014 and Summer 2014 to Spring/Summer 2015. Due to the specialist nature of the school and client/user group requirements we have opted for a traditional form of contract ( including 2 construction phases with a break clause between Phases1 and 2, subject to delivery to time, quality and cost). A multi-disciplinary Architect led Design Team appointed in July 2012 is carrying out the full design in consultation with the client/users, subject to client approval /Planning Approval. The Authority requires a suitably experienced contractor with a proven track record in delivering schools, specialist schools and public services provision including extension and remodelling of Victorian (or similar) age buildings within tight urban sites; to high quality standards achieving maximum value for money within set time and cost targets. The contract is to start in July/August 2013 with Phase 1 completing August 2014 and (subject to client approval) Phase 2 completing August 2015.
