IT Contracts and Tenders

An IT tender covers software development, licensing and support, cloud hosting, network and server infrastructure, service desks and end user computing, plus wider technology and digital transformation projects. It does not include contracts where a computer or software line item appears only in passing inside an unrelated project, such as a construction or leisure services contract.

Central government departments, local councils, NHS trusts, police forces, universities, colleges, academy trusts and housing associations all run IT contracts, most often for service desk support, managed IT services, software licensing and network or cloud infrastructure.

An IT support contract usually covers a service desk, incident response and ongoing maintenance for an existing technology estate. An IT services contract can be broader, covering software development, systems integration, cloud migration or a full managed service, and often includes support as one part of a wider scope.

IT contracts are published on Find a Tender and Contracts Finder, plus specialist and framework portals used by local and health-sector bodies. Many run through frameworks such as G-Cloud rather than as one-off tenders, and Stotles' 2026 Supplier Survey found 44% of suppliers now use frameworks as their main route to public sector work.

IT tenders map most often to CPV codes 72000000 (IT services: consulting, software development, Internet and support), 48000000 (software package and information systems), 72222300 (information technology services) and 30200000 (computer equipment and supplies). Buyers frequently combine two or three of these on a single notice.
