Ballyconnell Service Block Refurbishment - Waterways Ireland 2023

Tender description

There are six service blocks on the Shannon-Erne Waterway. They each comprise of two toilets, two showers, an elsan room (for disposal of sewage waste), a laundry room and a service room. They are located at Aghalane, Co. Fermanagh; Ballyconnell, Co. Cavan; Haughton’s Shore, Co. Leitrim; Ballinamore, Co. Leitrim; Keshcarrigan, Co. Leitrim and Leitrim Village, Co. Leitrim. The service blocks are over 25 years old and because of changes in legislation and standards over these years are now outdated. The refurbished service blocks need to provide 'access for all' and need to include modern design features that provide for more efficient maintenance and cleaning. Historically the main users of the service blocks were customers on craft navigating the Shannon-Erne Waterway. In more recent times, with the creation of Blueways along the Shannon-Erne Waterway, the service blocks now have to serve a growing number of diverse user groups such as canoeists, cyclists, walkers and people in camper vans. The current facilities need to be upgraded to reflect the changing needs of our customer base.
