Tender description

New Wooden Benches for Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE) We anticipate a minimum of 20 orders in 23/24, and a minimum of 10 orders every year thereafter. Please note that these figures are indicative only and the whole programme is dependent on demand – there is therefore no guarantee of work. RBGE currently have 155 benches located within the Edinburgh Garden. These benches form part of a commemorative scheme whereby visitors can pay for a memorial to loved ones for a period of ten years. The first wave of ten-year sponsorships is about to come to an end and we foresee a number of renewals and new sponsorships happening over the course of the coming years. RBGE is looking to award a new contract for the supply and ongoing structural maintenance of benches. The minimum features of the required benches and supply: Armrests and back support; Compatible with current sizing of garden bench furniture. 1830 x 900 x 680mm (length x height x depth), Large enough to seat three average sized UK adults; Made from unvarnished certified sustainably sourced oak, with a preference for locally sourced material (please provide proof of certification upon tender submission); Pre-oiled with several coats of for example Osmo UV Protection Oil, or equivalent; Low maintenance design, including measures to minimise uptake of water through the legs; Must fit existing plaques of 120mm by 50mm on backrest; Warranty of a minimum of 2 years; RBGE requires quality craftsmanship in the construction and will not accept flat-pack submissions; A maximum lead time of twelve weeks from order to delivery; Service to include delivery and installation of bench in the Garden; Structural maintenance of all bench parts (rails, legs, arm rests, etc.) should there be any damage or severe degradation over the 10 year period. Each year the contractor will review own supplied benches within the Garden with the client and agree on a schedule of structural maintenance works where required. Damaged or faulty benches that fall within the warranty period to be uplifted, fixed and returned within 1 calendar month. A future requirement may be to service existing bench fleet in the garden. There is no requirement at this point. Existing bench sponsors will be given the option to either keep their existing bench or get a new bench for the second ten year period. New sponsors will receive a new bench. We anticipate a minimum of 20 orders in 23/24, and a minimum of 10 orders every year thereafter. The initial year demand may double the expect capacity.
