Newport City Council is a partner of the Shared Resource Service (SRS) Wales for IT systems and support. Working with the SRS and the council’s in-house communications team to migrate content and develop new features. Provide maintenance, support and hosting. Where the supplied staff will work Wales Where the supplied staff will work No specific location (for example they can work remotely) Why the work is being done The Council’s corporate website has been delivered on the current platform and with the current design and layout for over 10 years. Although some development has taken place over this time, such as delivering a bilingual site, the majority focus has been on updating and expanding content. The website is the functional ‘front door’ for the authority digitally and as such needs to be effective, current and easy to use to support not only customer satisfaction but to support our digital ambitions and channel shift priorities. Since the previous development of the site, a number of other council systems have also been introduced including a new customer services CRM and the democratic governance system which services the democratic process and all associated documents. This has resulted in some disconnect between our public facing platforms, affecting user experience. Inconsistency between websites and platforms can also cause a lack of trust with less tech savvy users. Newport city Council wants to migrate to the LocalGov Drupal platform so that is can better meet the needs of its users and align to its Digital Strategy. The project will run over 18 months. It will be structured as a phased project and delivered live as each phase is completed. Phase 1 will consist of a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) determined by the Communications Team and informed by analysis of the highest footfall services/sections of the webpage: - Homepage - Integration of transactional services (My Council Services) - About the city - Your council (key organisational and legislative information) - Waste and recycling services - Education and schools - Council Tax/ benefits/ support - Jobs/ skills/ training This phase will need to be delivered within January 2024. Following phases will be determined within a prioritised migration plan over a further delivery period (maximum 12 months) and delivered live upon completion. The current council website consists of circa 3,500 pages. The project will deliver major rationalisation of existing content to create a more focused and streamlined product.
