Abernethy - mulch cutting August 2021

Tender description

As part of the peatland restoration works on An Lurg, RSPB Abernethy, I am seeking quotes to cut and bag 1500 standard size helibags of heather and moss mulch from the three mulch donor areas (areas B1, B2, B3) as shown on the attached map. It is estimated that it will be necessary to cut 8-10ha of donor areas to provide the volume required. The Restoration work is planned to start in September 2021 and so the mulch will need to be cut as early as possible in September to ensure it is ready for the helicopter. Filled bags are to be grouped together in clusters of 5 or 6 ready for airlifting to site. Low ground pressure machinery that can be safely used on uneven and sloping terrain will be required, fitted with a cutting attachment that can fill the bags with the arisings. The site is highly designated so the operator must ensure ground damage is kept to a minimum, trees and saplings must be avoided and the Contractor must ensure that the environment is protected from fuel and oil spills at all times.
