Tender description
<p>Coate Roundabout Improvement Works, Swindon Swindon Borough Council (the Employer and Contracting Authority), wishes to submit to tender the requirements for the provision of construction of highway improvements at Coate Water Roundabout (A4259 - Queens Drive / Marlborough Rd – near SN3 1PT), Swindon. The highway improvements to the Coate Water Roundabout area include the following elements of work: • Patching / resurfacing work along Marlborough Rd (between Coate Roundabout and Commonhead Roundabout) • Signal Upgrade of Coate Water Roundabout • Decommissioning of 2no. subways (Queens Drive and Marlborough Rd) • Installation of new Toucan Crossing and associated footway / cycleway and kerbline realignment • Waterproofing of Coate Bridge bridge-deck (Coate Roundabout exit onto Marlborough Rd – eastbound carriageway only). Works also include resurfacing of the carriageway in approaches to the crossing. Provision of traffic management is also required as part of this contract. Project Description Swindon Borough Council have been awarded funding by the Department for Transport to address major structures maintenance requirements within the Borough. The subways located on Queens Drive and Marlborough Rd (at Coate Water Roundabout) have been identified for decommissioning / closure, with a new signalised Toucan Crossing constructed on Queens Drive, to provide a new crossing facility in replacement of the closed subway. Other highway improvements form part of essential maintenance due associated with the respective asset life cycle (signal upgrade, resurfacing and structural waterproofing). The activities and any associated pre-works (as detailed in the respective specifications and drawings) will include: • Site Clearance • Installation of Safety Systems – fences / barriers / guardrails • Subway decommissioning / closure • Staggered Toucan Crossing construction. • Pavement construction / resurfacing (footways / carriageway) • Street Lighting and Traffic Signals installation and associated Civils work • Bridge-deck waterproofing (and associated temporary works / reinstatement) • Drainage Improvements • Replacement of road markings where necessary • Provision of suitable traffic management proposals and on site (including necessary associated advance signage and diversions) to accommodate the work within constraints outlined within the tender documentation as per agreements with SBC Streetworks, as well as necessary reinstatements following works completion. Contract Period The initial contract term will be for 34 weeks (+12 month defect period) as stated in the ITT documents.
