CT Unit Suite - Mayo University Hospital

Tender description

The project consists of the construction of a new circa 95m2 GIFA CT scanner suite within an existing semi enclosed north facing courtyard on the existing hospital site. The building shall be single story with a plant enclosure located on the roof above. The plant enclosure shall be accessible from the first-floor hospital street. Some elements of building servicing shall be provided locally through plant located on the roof of the CT unit with some being tied back into the main hospital systems. It is proposed to connect directly into the existing hospital infrastructure to provide efficient and level access for all patients, both in-patient and out-patient, to the new CT Scanner. The existing reception area on the Hospital Street will be utilised for incoming patients. On progressing, the patient has access to the transfer area with immediate access to a changing facility and WC. A new CT Room of 49 sq metres and supporting Viewing Room with Equipment area provide the core infrastructure of the facility. It is proposed to construct a cavity, blockwork, external wall which provides the enclosure for the facilities outlined above. The unit will be ‘shielded’ as required to meet the relevant requirements for the safe operation of the CT Machine in accordance with; the Design of Diagnostic Medical Facilities where Ionising Radiation is used. It is proposed that mechanical ventilation will be required throughout the Unit and that services connections will be provided to faciliate the installation of the specialist CT Scan Equipment and associated equipment by specialist suppliers procured by the Contracting Authority.
