Llanbedr Access Improvement - Advanced Environmental Works

Tender description

The A496 is an important transport route in North Wales forming a coastal link between the towns of Barmouth and Porthmadog, Blaenau Ffestiniog and linking into the trunk road network at Dolgellau, Penrhyndeudraeth and Maentwrog. It also serves numerous settlements along the coast, providing a route for commercial, tourist and local traffic. The proposal is that an advance environmental work to be carried out prior to main access improvement works. The Advanced Environmental Works will include the construction of a new purpose-built bat roost providing suitable habitat for lesser horseshoe bats, brown long-eared bats and other bat species (including big bat species – noctule/serotine). The works also include an artificial badger set to be provided 6 months in advance of the existing sett closure. Sett closure according to standard guidelines, including 3 weeks’ monitoring prior to destruction under ecological supervision. Also, a pond is to be created within the area of woodland planting to the west of Maes Artro Holiday Village (and location of proposed compensation bat roost) to optimise the foraging potential of the habitat creation in that location. Covid 19 - The works must adhered to Cyngor Gwynedd Council / Welsh Government/UK Guidelines in regards to working practice.
