Tender description

The Contract involves the expansion and redevelopment of the current Gasyard Centre, within the Bogside/Brandywell area of the city, to provide a new community owned and managed Heritage and Exhibition Centre. The proposed works will involve an extension to the existing premises, the reconfiguration of the existing carpark and development of the external landscaping. It will include the provision of an exhibition space, performance space, café and studio accommodation, in addition to internal and external performance spaces. The project has been conceived as part of the wider Triax tourism strategy and is designed to establish a heritage/cultural tourism initiative in Bogside/Brandywell area as an integral part of the City’s overall Tourism offering. The aim of the project is to expand opportunities for local employment in tourism area, which will help build community confidence and ensure good relations. The proposed works will involve an extension to the existing premises and development of the external landscaped area. The key features of the new Centre, which have been informed by wide ranging consultation are set out as follows: • The extension of the existing Gasyard Centre building to ensure it is DDA compliant and sustainably efficient; • The provision of a heritage and exhibition space • The provision of artist masterclass spaces for local artists and organisations; • The provision of artist studios for local artists and organisations; • The provision of exhibition space, performance space and studio accommodation – for external letting and also for community and voluntary organisations and GDT staff; • The provision of internal and external performance space to allow for internal and external cultural performance events e.g. music festivals; • The inclusion of a multi-purpose space that could be hired for meetings or used by the local community Please refer to CfT documents for further detail.
