Tender description

The Terret Lodge, adjoining arch and site is located to the rear of St. Senan's Church of Ireland, at an entrance to the Vandeleur Demesne adjacent to Grace Street, Kilrush, County Clare. It is a detached former gate lodge, built in 1845, which comprises of a single-bay two-storey over basement gate lodge with an adjoining arched, castellated gate and narrow turret to Vandeleur Estate. There is an adjacent holywell (CL067-011003) and toilet in the form of a castle garderobe which empties into a nearby stream. It is accessed via a laneway, south of the Churchyard. The building was occupied until approximately the mid-1980s, however, it is currently derelict and exposed to the elements. The lodge is recorded on the Record of Protected Structures prepared for the Clare County Development Plan 2017-2023 (RPS 873). The project comprises of the refurbishment of the Terret Lodge, adjoining arch and associated landscape/site works to provide for the use of this building as a Heritage and Genealogical centre. This project will receive funding under the Historic Towns Initiative 2019 which is a partnership between the Heritage Council and the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht. • Roof works repairs to existing roof structure and covering, • Removal of external cement render, repair repoint and re render with a lime based render on the ground and first floor, • Repairs to existing chimneys and flues, • Removal of vegetation growth on the walls, • Repairs to the masonry on the archway and crenellations, • Installation of new wicket gate in arch opening, • Site clearance and landscaping around the Lodge, • Repairs to the external shed, surrounding walls and steps, • Repairs to ceilings, flooring and walls, remove cement plaster and replaster with lime. • Installation of new windows and doors, • All necessary mechanical and electrical works, • Repairs to existing stairs Contract Awarded to: Corcon Construction Ltd.
