Tender description
Forestry England (FE) has developed a scheme for the installation of a small-scale, high head hydropower system, with the maximum possible generating capacity (expected to be circa 140 kW) within Whinlatter Forest, Cumbria. The purpose of the scheme is to transfer the Whinlatter site into a carbon free, net energy producer. An outline scheme has been granted planning permission, consisting of an inlet structure, penstock, turbine house and outlet, with electrical connections into both the Whinlatter Visitor Centre and into Thornthwaite, for export to the National Grid. Detailed design is currently in progress for the overall scheme with the turbine specification and requirements set out below. This tender is for the award of a contract for the design, manufacture, supply, installation, commissioning and the planned and reactive maintenance of a suitable turbine. The maintenance service will be for an initial period of 4 years post commissioning.
