Tender description

Design and build contractor to deliver approximately 21 300 m2 of mixed retail and leisure development due for opening in May 2020 in addition to a multi-storey car park and public realm. The Council have procured the services of a design and build contractor to deliver Phase 2 of the Glass Works development. It forms part of a major town centre 120 000 000 GBP regeneration scheme covering 3,8 hectares in the heart of Barnsley Town Centre that, when complete, will provide Barnsley with a renewed and vibrant town centre as part of a 30-year vision by the Council. The Glass Works will improve the connectivity of the town centre and provide a genuine retail circuit. It will create space for new shops, cafes and restaurants, as well as high quality open spaces, to encourage people to shop, socialise and relax, providing Barnsley with a safe and family-friendly town centre environment that can be enjoyed by people of all ages, day or night. The current composition of the Phase 2 scheme will deliver a mix of uses: More specifically phase 2 comprising: — 6 large shops (MSU’s), — 20 standard shops, — 11 restaurants and cafes, — cinéma, — FEC including Bowling, Laser Quest, and Soft Play, — 500 space car park, — other associated works to roads, drainage and services, — option to deliver public realm; see below and Section II.2.11). With the exception of the options set out below, critical elements of design sensitive and cost sensitive packages of work will be designed to RIBA 4 and detailed as part of the ITT documentation. There will be options to deliver wider public realm works: Public realm square — water feature and slab 3 000 000 GBP.
