Tender description

Appointment of Main Contractor for the construction of a new lecture theatre building. This Notice is to provide advance notification of the University's intention to carry out a procurement for a Main Contractor for the construction of a new lecture theatre building. The building will: — house 3 separate lecture theatres seating 300/150/90, plus 60 study spaces, — be on 4 levels, — involve a concrete frame with structural steel trusses, — be clad in stone, metal and glass, — have a bio-diverse roof with PV panel, — be passively ventilated, supplemented by mechanical AHU’s and air source heat pumps, — externally be landscaped and lit to encourage pedestrian access throughout the year. The BREEAM target is “Excellent”. The aim is to appoint a main contractor by the end of 2019, with a start on site in 1Q20 and the building in operation in 2022. A detailed planning application will be submitted in March 2019. The University intends to issue the Contract Notice and procurement documentation in March 2019. The University is currently progressing detailed design and a planning application, and this pre-market engagement assumes that the planning application will be granted with minimal changes to those detailed above. Further details will be included in the procurement documents. Proposed procurement timelines: — Issue Contract Notice and pre-qualification questionnaire (PAS91) in early March 2019, to be returned April 2019, — Begin pre-tender engagement with shortlisted suppliers in late April/early May 2019, — Issue initial (qualitative) Invitation to Tender in mid-May 2019, to be returned mid-July 2019 (8-week tender period), — Evaluate qualitative responses July/August 2019, — Completion of detailed design to RIBA Stage 4 — mid-September 2019, — Issue subsequent Invitation to Tender with full detailed design information — 1.10.2019, — Tender returns, evaluation, Contract Award December 2019. Procurement documents are not available at this time and will be issued in line with the timelines detailed above via the University’s tender portal.
