Appointment of Works Contractor for the Refurbishment of Block A, Phase 3 at the Tyndall National Institute

Tender description

The project is the refurbishment of the existing Phase 3 office section of the Block A building in the Tyndall National Institute. The brick building was constructed in 1903 and was part of the Maltings complex until its conversion to a 2 storey office building in the last 50 years. It is adjacent to the boundary with Presentation Brothers secondary school and the river Lee and is fully connected to the phase section of Block A. The building will require all internal structures including floors, stairs and partition walls to be fully demolished and removed. The current cellular office layouts will be replaced by open plan floors and a new facade design on the west elevation. The project will deliver an extra floor in the structure as well as aligning the current floors with the adjacent Phase 6 building. A new external stairs will be constructed to create additional fire escape routes from each floor. The successful tenderer will also be required to carry out the replacement of the existing lift in the Atrium of the Block A building. All works will be carried out while the adjacent TNI Blocks A, B and C are fully operational. Access to the site is from the Mardyke Parade through the UCC security controlled gates.
