Tender description

The Council has appointed a main contractor for the refurbishment of the existing world war munitions store on the Rotherwas Industrial Estate in the Hereford Enterprise Zone to create flexible office pods and lecture and research space including external car parking. The Council has appointed an experienced principal contractor to undertake the design and construction of the scheme referred to as the Hereford Shell Store under an NEC 4 Engineering and Construction Contract (Option A) with secondary options and Z clauses. The scheme involves the refurbishment of an existing munitions store on the Rotherwas Industrial Estate in Hereford. The building was involved in the production of munitions during the First World War and was producing munitions from November 1916. The building stands to the north of the Rotherwas Industrial Estate and Thorn Business Park in an area of grassland. The building is single storey of steel frame construction with a GIA of circa 4 100 m2. A north light roof construction is provided to the full length of the building with glazed openings and asbestos cement sheeting to the roof coverings. A solid ground bearing concrete slab provides the floor make up. Rendered masonry forms the exterior skin of the building. The design has been developed by Quattro Architects up to RIBA Stage 3 along with support from One Creative Ltd for the M and E design, Caulmert for the Civils and Structural design and Mace as Project Managers and Cost Consultants.
