Contract awarded to: TOLMAC CONSTRUCTION LTD, 6 ROBINHOOD ROAD, CLONDALKIN, DUBLIN 22 Building work and alterations to existing Protected Structure and National Monument, comprising the refurbishment of five rooms at basement level to house a permanent exhibition of the archaeological artefacts that were discovered during the most recent phase of works. Restoration and conservation work will also be included to preserve the fabric and finishes of Rathfarnham Castle, using traditional methods in accordance with best practice The main components of the work comprise: •Removal of existing lime plaster finishes, where damaged, and provision of new lime plaster finish to existing masonry walls and vaulted ceilings, including new lime plaster finish to existing 20th c. exposed blockwork walls; •Repair and making good of existing stone, tiled, and brick floors. Additional repairs to tiled and stone floors outside the contractor areas; •Removal of existing 20th century concrete ramp to the 18th century bow extension, and replacement with timber steps and linings; •General refurbishment of 4 no. windows, including removal of existing 20th century obscured glass in sash windows and replacement with appropriate clear glass; •Repair of existing door heads, provision of new doors and linings, and refurbishment of existing doors; •Provision of new suspended ceiling tray for services; •All associated servicing, including heating, lighting, and fire and smoke detection systems in these areas. •Provision of new door and steps into former coal cellars, new internal drainage in these rooms, and new ope for ventilation, into new external “lightwell”, with c.i grille at external ground level. •Repair works to external portico at upper ground level, north facade, including lifting paving, waterproofing, clearing of drains, and relaying paving stones.
