Pontefract Castle - The Key to the North

Wakefield Council has secured Heritage Lottery Funding with the aim to conserve the heritage of Pontefract Castle, to improve the site’s facilities and accessibility, and to promote the Castle and encourage local community involvement in its future. The proposed works included in this package are the Stabilisation of the Scheduled Ancient Monument. This includes the consolidation of the Castle ruins including removal of existing cementitious mortar; rebuilding and consolidation of walls and rubble cores; repointing with lime mortar; application of soft cappings to wall heads. The works are partly complete but the contractor who was appointed by the Council failed to deliver their contractual obligations and the contract was terminated. We are now seeking a contractor to complete the existing works. Scaffolding is in situ and contracted direct to the Council so is not required from the successful tenderer.
