Tender description

Working in and near water training for approximately 600 to 900 delegates per annum in multiple locations across England and Wales. Delegates require training at one of 2 levels depending on work activities. The ‘High Risk’ course to be delivered at water centres with managed flow, to simulate fast flowing rivers, and the ‘Low Risk’ course to be delivered at natural river locations.Locations to be sourced and risk assessed by the training provider, taking water quality into account, and be accessible to delegates in all parts of England with a maximum travel time of 2 hours for natural river locations and 6 hours.Training outcomes from both courses to include: — Recognise when it is safe and not safe to work adjacent to or enter a watercourse, particularly in circumstances that present high risk — such as during a flooding incident, — Understand the potential health risks from contact with waterborne diseases and the control measures that must be implemented to prevent these. Training outcomes from both courses to include: — recognise when it is safe and not safe to work adjacent to or enter a watercourse, particularly in circumstances that present high risk — such as during a flooding incident, — understand the potential health risks from contact with waterborne diseases and the control measures that must be implemented to prevent these, — make informed decisions about what items and combinations of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) are suitable for their working environment / task and the consequences of wearing inappropriate PPE, — how to correctly wear all types of floatation device (i.e. Lifejackets and buoyancy aids) and understand how they operate in both armed and unarmed mode, — inspecting lifejackets in accordance with the manufacturer's guidance, — recognise in-water hazards and understand river dynamics and the associated risks, highlighting the additional risks presented during flooding, — understand and demonstrate the practical skills of self-rescue from the watercourse, — understand and demonstrate the skills of rescuing another person from the watercourse, including use of throw lines and ensuring own safety whilst attempting rescue. We are also open to innovative ideas on how to enhance the training provision beyond the face to face learning environment.
