Tender description

Conversion of the Harvey Building, which was the former library, into teaching space to provide enhanced facilities for the Department of Media, Culture and Language (MCL) to include a cinema/lecture space, film studio, editing suites and a bespoke Glulam roof to the courtyard area —totalling approximately 4 000m2 across ground, first and second floors. The appointed contractor may also undertake the next phase of works (via a new process with direct award) which includes refurbishment of the upper floors of the building and the refurbishment of the adjacent Romero Building. The University of Roehampton intends to award the contract to a single supplier of construction and completion of design services. The NEC3 Construction Contract (with Client Amendments) will be adopted. Having recently completed the new library the focus has now turned to the Harvey Building which was the former location of the library. With an approximate GIA of 7 000m2 split across 5 levels the intention is to transform the building into a teaching space that addresses the shortfall in seminar rooms, collocates key university functions and provides enhanced facilities for the Department of Media, Culture and Language (MCL) The technical design is currently being developed but the requirement is likely to involve the following: — The fit out of approximately 4 000m2 across ground, first and second floors, — Works include a cinema/lecture space, film studio, editing suites and a bespoke ‘Glulam’ roof to the courtyard area, — Works completed in an occupied building. Whilst outside the scope of works currently, the appointed contractor may also undertake the next phase of works (via a new process with direct award) which includes refurbishment of the upper floors of the Harvey Building (levels 3 and 4) and the refurbishment of the adjacent Romero Building which comprises 2 levels (ground and first).
