Tender description

The Council plan an investment in order to modernise Marjorie Waite Court Extra Care Scheme in Clifton as part of work to raise the quality of care for older people in York and increase the number of people who have access to Extra Care accommodation. The site is currently occupied by Burton Stone Community centre, which will be demolished. A new, smaller community facility will be re-provided as part of the development. A proportion of the existing users will be rehoused within the new facility with others to be found alternative accommodation at various sites within the City. The proposal is for 29 one bedroom, “dementia ready”, Extra-care apartments and associated communal facilities including residents lounges, a larger buggy store, a new laundry, an extended dining area and ancillary office accommodation. In addition 4 x 2 bedroom bungalows will enclose a new communal garden and a new community facility will provide an adaptable space which can be used by residents and the wider community.
