PSF2 Lot 2 - Principal Bridge Inspections 2018-19

Tender description

Cumbria CC has identified 59 bridge sites and a further 4 highway maintained footbridge sites on the highway network around the County where Principal Bridge Inspections are required. There are 21 number bridges in the Carlisle Area, 13 number bridges in the Eden Area, 12 number bridges in the Allerdale Area, 5 number bridges in the Copeland Area and 12 number bridges in the South Lakes Area. A full Principal Bridge Inspection in accordance with BD 63/07 and the Management of Highway Structures (Code of Practice) is required for each bridge. For clarity, the County Council's interpretation of BD 63/07, in relation to Principal Bridge Inspections, is that access is required at all bridges to allow an Engineer to get within touching distance of all inspectable parts of a structure. No alternatives to this interpretation will be accepted. Subsequently a detailed PBI report, including BCI data sheet(s), in accordance with current County Surveyors Society (CSS) Bridges Guidance, is to be produced for each bridge. It is not envisaged that any confined spaces inspections, diving inspections or other special inspections will be required at this stage.
