Kirkgate - Highway Improvements

Tender description

The scope of the project for the highway improvements and environment works within the Kirkgate development area and highway boundary comprises: • Improved accessibility for all modes to the Kirkgate development area sites • Improved connectivity for all modes of travel • Improved storm water drainage facilities • Improved highway safety and the perception of safety • Improved environment and landscaping The "key scheme components" of the scheme comprise: • Carriageway widening to Marsh Way to provide additional traffic lane on the approach to the roundabout • Carriageway widening to Kirkgate to provide a priority approach to the bus stops on Kirkgate • The subway crossings are removed and replaced with at grade toucan crossings within the signal control arrangement. • Traffic signals installed on 3 legs of the Kirkgate roundabout • Extensive landscaping on the roundabout and on the "boulevard" towards the Kirkgate station (Monk Street and Ingwell Street) • Extensive paving to match the street-style design provided for the rest of the city centre and the Emerald Ring. • New LED street lighting throughout the scheme to replace old street lighting • Storm water drainage installed in the centre of the roundabout to cater for flood events • Park Street opened up at the junction with Kirkgate, and new traffic signals installed. • Monk Street closed at the junction with Brunswick Street
