PSPI manage industries in 95 prisons in England and Wales, including some private sector prisons, and currently operates 465 workshops employing 1056 staff and around 11,500 prisoners and detainees. This includes 17 Engineering and Windows work-shops employing over 500 prisoners. Manufacturing products for the internal market, MOD and commercial companies. Disciplines include; Welding and fabrication, sheet metal, CNC machining and powder painting in our engineering workshops, in our windows manufacturing workshops we produce windows, telephone boxes, tilt and turn windows, greenhouses, anti-finger trap doors, amongst other products. The purpose of PSPI is to help reduce the potential for prisoners to re-offend and to help PSP deliver Decent Regimes. Allied to that purpose are two main aims: To provide employment for prisoners, enabling them to experience real work, ‘on the job training’, and life skills in the preparation for their release; and, To produce high-quality goods.
