Tender description

The University of Leicester is seeking to appoint a main contractor to substantially refurbish the Mary Gee Student Accommodation. The brief comprises instruction to refurbish the site infrastructure, buildings, external works layouts, services plant layouts and BMS controls to deliver a minimum life expectancy of 20 years. It is anticipated the works will start on 30.10.2017 until 31.8.2018, assuming all buildings on site are refurbished. The University of Leicester is seeking to appoint a main contractor to substantially refurbish the Mary Gee Student Accommodation. The brief comprises instruction to refurbish the site infrastructure, buildings, external works layouts, services plant layouts and BMS controls to deliver a minimum life expectancy of 20 years. It is anticipated the works will start on 30.10.2017 until 31.8.2018, assuming all buildings on site are refurbished. The University is undertaking a 2 stage tender for this project. The anticipated value of the works package is 8 000 000 GBP. Vacant possession of blocks is dependent on student recruitment for the 2017/2018 academic year, as such the building release schedule for instruction will not be released until 1.9.2017. The refurbishment will be carried out in phases, each phase will comprise of a full building of either 50, 70, 80, 90 bed blocks to be client decanted for free vacant possession by the contractor at the start of each phase. The remaining residential buildings on the site will remain fully occupied and operational as a residential site and the contractors shall require to account for this in their works planning and health and safety procedures. There may also be a requirement to bring forward early works including but not limited to replacement of site infrastructure sub mains and central plant rooms. These elements may be fully identified and developed at the start of the 2 stage tender process.
