Nexus is looking to let a concession for 10 years with a third party supplier to maximise its role in the wireless sector of the digital market in the North East. Nexus believes its existing Tyne and Wear Metro infrastructure and assets offer a unique opportunity to develop a wireless network for the successful Concessionaire to optimise with their commercial partners. The Concessionaire will have the opportunity to utilise the assets owned by Nexus to enable commercial wireless services to maximise revenue-earning potential. Nexus is looking to let a concession for ten years with a third party supplier to maximise its role in the wireless sector of the digital market in the North East. Nexus believes its existing Tyne and Wear Metro infrastructure and assets offer a unique opportunity to develop a wireless network for the successful Concessionaire to optimise with their commercial partners. The Concessionaire will have the opportunity to utilise the assets owned by Nexus to enable commercial wireless services to maximise revenue-earning potential. Tenderers may propose to utilise available Nexus assets for the installation of their wireless equipment. The range of Nexus assets available includes most trackside and on-station assets with the exception of those situated on the Sunderland Extension (from Pelaw to South Hylton). In addition, Nexus will be requesting priced options for the provision of a public WiFi network to enhance its offering to Metro customers by improving system wide connectivity to improve customer satisfaction on Metro. This will include stations on the Sunderland Extension. The successful Concessionaire will provide both a fixed income and revenue share to Nexus across the life of the Concession. The successful Concessionaire will be expected to support Nexus pursuit of its wider digital aspirations including 5G and in-transit WiFi and where relevant provide additional services as required.
