Palmerston Road Footbridge

Tender description

The footbridge is located over the Weymouth to London railway line in Bournemouth. The bridge provides a vital pedestrian link over the track and has a high foot fall throughout the day. The bridge is a single span girder truss bridge supported on brick abutment ramps. Between the girders is a corrugated troughing deck with concrete fill and Hot Rolled Asphalt surfacing which has a depth of 100mm at its centre and 60mm along the edges. The edges of the span has ACO drains which outlet through the bridge troughing deck. The ramps comprise brick chambers supporting precast concrete with concrete overlay. On this is a Hot Rolled Asphalt surfacing which is 80mm thick. The brick walls provide an upstand around the perimeter of the ramps where the parapet is supported. The works to both structures are as follows: • To remove the existing surfacing. • Prepare the deck ready to accept the waterproofing membrane • Apply waterproofing system • Apply HRA surfacing • Clean drainage system Project Objectives • Re waterproof the bridge • To undertake the works with the minimum of disruption to pedestrians.
