Construction of Retaining Wall at Grove Road Carpark

Tender description

The Isle of Wight Council ("the authority") invited tenders from suitably qualified providers ("tenderers") for the construction of a retaining wall, Grove Road car park, Ventnor. Work starts on site on 10 April 2017 for the period as per the winning contractor's works programme. The proposed works comprise the dismantling and reconstruction of the stone retaining wall forming the northern boundary of the car park. The existing wall is constructed from coursed natural stone. The replacement wall will be constructed from reinforced concrete which will be faced with the salvaged natural stone saved when the existing wall is taken down. Wall lizards have been identified on the wall. Whilst these are not a protected species they are of local importance. The lizards will need therefore somewhere to relocating to a temporary refuge during the works. It is recommended that an ecologist is on site during the stripping of the vegetation and again during the main construction period when the wall is dismantled. It would also be prudent to put up some information boards to keep the public informed. The closing date for receipt of Tenders was 14:00Hrs on Thursday 23 February 2017.
