Tender description

The University of Leicester is seeking to appoint contractor(s) to complete two projects, the procurement is broken down into 2 lots. The first project is to substantially refurbish, and some new build element, of the existing Brookfield Campus into Brookfield School of Business. Construction period being between December 2017 and March 2019. The second project is seeks to develop the East Wing of the Percy Gee building on the main campus. It will provide a transformed East Wing of some 5 200 m² providing new and improved space which better suits the requirements of the Union and the University, and enables a series of improvement projects to proceed within the wider University estate. The construction period is December 2017 to March 2019. The University of Leicester is seeking to appoint a building contractor to substantially refurbish, and some new build element, of the existing Brookfield Campus into Brookfield School of Business. The site is currently utilised by the University for office accommodation and the Post Graduate Teaching Centre (PGTC) that offers academic teaching spaces, offices and a café space. The spaces are under-utilised and in need of modernisation. The historic buildings (Stable Buildings, Caretakers Cottage, Mary Seacole House, and Brookfield House) are in a state of disrepair and only in use as storage facilities. The project is tasked to refurbish the existing buildings, including new build extension to the main house, and provide the Academic teaching space, Lecture theatre, Specialist space, Catering facilities, Office space, Student and professional services, Social space. The anticipated construction period is from December 2017 until March 2019 with occupation by August 2019. This project seeks to develop the East Wing of the Percy Gee building to achieve a civic scale and quality worthy of the new Fielding Johnson Square, and the University's notable building and landscape context. It will provide a transformed East Wing of some 5 200 m² providing new and improved space which better suits the requirements of the Union and the University, and enables a series of improvement projects to proceed within the wider University estate. This project will enable a series of other construction projects around the wider campus to proceed by providing alternative facilities and decant space, provide a permanent improvement to the Students Union building and a permanent addition to the University's stock of high quality, accessible and adaptable space at the heart of the campus. One of the key themes work has been the importance of the Percy Gee Building as the clearly identifiable home and heart of the Students' Union of the University of Leicester, and the need to ensure that this intrinsic quality is maintained and enhanced through the development of the East Wing project. The construction period is from December 2017 until March 2019.
