Tender description
A new Interdisciplinary STEM Teaching and Engagement Centre (ISTEC) will contain state-of-the-art laboratories for teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students. It will also support the University's schools, colleges and community outreach activities, while providing important facilities for industry and a platform for wider collaboration. The centre, which is being established at the University's Clifton campus, will be new build and enabling works are anticipated to commence Easter 2016 with construction following on to enable Practical Completion to be achieved in Summer 2017. The University's estimation of what they believe the ISTEC requirement to be is summarised in the following table; Title Description Bioscience Taught Project Labs a) 1 no. large flexible space. b) 1 no. Containment Level 2 space. c) 1 no. Prep Room between them. d) 1 — 2 no. Tissue Culture Rooms. Bioscience Research Lab a) 1 no. main Containment Level 2 Lab. Includes: Tissue Culture Room, Prep Room, Constant Temperature Room and Cold Room. Chemistry Taught Project Lab a) 4 no. ‘podded’ labs containing 10 fume hoods each. b) 1 no. Prep Area containing 2 fume hoods. Chemistry Research Lab a) 1 no. lab with Prep Area/Store and 11 fume hoods. Physics Taught Project Lab a) 1 no. lab fitted out with benching, power and data and 1 fume hood. b) 1 no. Small Prep Area off lab. Physics Research lab a) 1 no. lab fitted out with benching, power and data. 1 fume hood. b) 1 no. small Prep Area off lab. Sports Science Research a) 3 no. rooms: Nutrition Suite, Exercise Lab, Bio-Chemistry Lab. Data Science/High Performing Computer Lab a) 1 no. Server Room. b) 1 no. Workstation Room with 30 ‘seats’. Computing Research Lab a) Combined: Assistive Technology Lab, Robot Arena including workbenches, Workstation/Interactive Systems Area adjoining. Open Access Computer Area a) With 25 — 30 ‘seats’ capacity. Showcase Area a) 1 no. flat meeting/presentation area. Specialist Computing Teaching Labs a) 2 no. isolated labs adjoining with some storage. b) 3 no. further labs of 25 ‘seats’ each, including ability to open out two of them for double sized class. Anticipated nett area 2 200 m² Anticipated gross area 3 000 m² Aspirations for ISTEC 1. Class leading, inspirational teaching and research facility with the flexibility to accommodate the University's anticipated growth in student numbers. 2. Class leading energy/carbon credentials. 3. Innovative and inspiring design features running through the completed facility. 4. Robust and flexible facility with low maintenance designed/built in. 5.
