SCC APC (SMBF) St Peter's Secondary School Expansion - AWARD

Tender description

The Local Authority has a statutory duty to provide school places. Due to a shortage of pupil places for key stages 3 and 4, additional Secondary school places are required in the Chertsey area of Runnymede, as well as in the Merrow area of Guildford. In Runnymede, Salesian School has been identified as the most appropriate and viable location to be increased to meet the demand for additional secondary pupil places; and in Guildford, St Peter’s Catholic School has similarly been the site identified. The expansions will increase the number of places and opportunities for faith groups within the community and beyond. Some of the children that will attend the school will be vulnerable children and the provision of these places within walking distance would benefit both the children and their families. A high level viability study and a more detailed feasibility study have been completed to form the basis of the business case. Due to the large amount of similarities and parallels in both school’s modular expansion, the tenders will use the same framework (Southern Modular Building Framework) which contains nine providers, with the target of further savings if the same contractor proposes to build both schools and wins both tenders. The two tenders will be timed to run roughly concurrently to facilitate this aim.
