Tender description

Project is for the provision of to carry out routine maintenance, replacement and emergency repair works to the department's structures along the various routes operated by Northern Ireland Railways. The following types of structures assets are along the Northern Ireland Railways (NIR) railway network: — Underline bridges, — Viaducts (> 5 spans), — Culverts, — Tunnels, — Over-line accommodation bridges, — Footbridges, — Embankments and cuttings, — Rock cuttings (including cliffs), — Sea/river defences, — Retaining structures, — Platform walls, — Structural clearances to platforms and over-line bridges, and — Miscellaneous structures (water towers, etc.). The type of work undertaken will consist of the following: — Site clearance — removal of vegetation and debris, — Demolition — bridges, structures, — Site investigations — trial holes, material sampling, — Topographical surveys, — Confined space working, — Bridge repair, — Inspections/assisting engineer (scaffolding), — Examinations/assisting NIR and consulting engineers, — Concrete works — repairs, reconstruction, — Masonry/block work/brick work re-pointing construction, — Steelwork — structural repairs, cleaning and painting, — Handrails and walkway erection/repair, — Waterproofing installation/repair, — Traffic management, — Sea/river defences — rock armour, stone revetments, scour protection, re-pointing, etc., — Culvert — construction, replacement, maintenance cleaning and repair, — Earthworks — embankment/cutting stabilization/reinstatement, — Rock cutting slopes — de-scaling, de-vegetation, stabilisation, — Retaining structures — construction/repair/strengthening, — Drainage — clearing drains, culvert replacement, strengthening, confined spaces, — Station platforms — construction, copings, surfacing, lighting, extensions, — Line-side signs — erection/repair, — Fencing — erection/repair. Other work not listed may be required as directed by the Engineer. The estimated value, excluding VAT, of the service contract is in the cost range 1 200 000 GBP per annum. This is an estimate only, the contract has been advertised as 2 500 000 GBP per annum to cover safety critical work as the needs arise and is no guarantee of work. The term service contract period is to be 2 years extendible to a maximum of 6 years duration by annual increments subject to the satisfactory performance of the successful Economic Operator.
