Tender description

Function: The Managed Service will provide ‘Seagoing Professional Medics’, who will provide Safety of Life at Sea for migrants travelling by boat from either Turkey or Libya to Europe (mainly Greece and Italy). Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS ) operations within the Mediterranean and Aegean Seas continue, with 3 vessels (1 Border Force patrol vessel and 2 charter vessels) currently deployed in support of the Greek Coastguard; providing a Search and Rescue capability for those migrants crossing the sea by boat. There is a wide ranging demographic of migrants, from the old and infirm to young children and babies. Once a migrant vessel has been identified as being in distress, Border Force (BF) must be able to respond to the immediate needs of the various individuals, and in particular the provision of medical attention. BF requires a managed service including engagement, arrangement and deployment of professional medics. Medical assistance needs to be available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week for the full deployment of each vessel, including the provision of medical supplies. The purpose of this document is to assess the capability of the market to meet the requirement.
