Tender description

The NHS Health Check is a prevention programme which aims to reduce the chance of a heart attack, stroke or developing some forms of dementia in people aged 40-74. Under the Health and Social Care Act 2012, responsibility for commissioning and monitoring the programme passed to local authorities, who have a legal responsibility to offer an NHS Health Check to 100% of their eligible population once every five years. This will continue to be a GP-led delivery approach, and from a practical perspective this is the only feasible option, since they hold the sensitive eligible population data and no data sharing agreements exist locally which would allow any other provider to have access to this information. We also consider that GPs remain best placed to respond appropriately to the findings of the NHS Health Check and provide the best follow-on advice and/or treatment to the patient depending on the results.
