Tender description

The New Teaching & Learning Building is situated in the North West of the University of Southampton Highfield campus. The building is arranged over a lower ground floor, an upper ground floor and 6 storeys above, with M&E plant located at roof level. The scheme is for a compact building footprint with wings of 4 and 7 storey . The building contains a large 250 seat lecture theatre, 9 seminar rooms, a Harvard style lecture theatre, 2 open plan teaching spaces, a computer room, MBA space, multiple areas of independent learning space, and a café. The building stands between other existing buildings and at the hub of many traffic routes, such as vehicular traffic on Salisbury Road, access to the east to the bus interchange, and cyclists and pedestrians from all approaches. The building is permeable to pedestrian access from all elevations for both those using the building facilities, and persons passing through. Due to the proximity of neighbouring buildings the building is to be delivered and operated with the minimum of disruption to business as usual for the activities of both the University, and other users such as Nuffield Theatre and Turner Simms concert hall. The Main contract includes for fitting out of all Fixed Furniture & Equipment, loose furniture, Audio Visual equipment and IT. This contract is NOT suitable for splitting into LOTS. The risk of dividing onto Lots would render the execution of the contract excessively technically difficult and not cost effective, and undermine proper execution. High level award criteria for the Contract is70/30 quality/price. Full details included within ITT documentation.
