Tender description

This is a Contract Award Notice and as such the procurement process is complete. Wave Energy Scotland (WES) a wholly owned subsidiary of Highland and Islands Enterprise — funded by the Scottish Government — takes an innovative approach to supporting the commercialisation of the wave energy sector. Wave Energy Scotland is a collaborative programme seeking to source and fund the development of the key sub-systems and components and then integrate these with other systems and/or into devices. Arising from the fundamental approach, there is a strict requirement that all applicants entering the WES process are willing to adopt this approach and successful applicants collaborate in the future to allow their solutions to be integrated together where practicable. The Intellectual Property arrangements will facilitate this and are specified in the contract. This Call is for novel wave energy converter devices, specifically focussed on the prime mover and structure. WES invites applications for significantly improved novel wave energy converters for entry into this competition process at Stage 1 only. To be eligible applicants are expected to have already identified a concept and carried out preliminary feasibility work, as defined in Section 2.8 of the Call Guidance document. WES will only seek to support truly novel devices which have not been developed and characterised before. However, WES will consider supporting existing device concepts which have previously progressed to higher levels of maturity but where significant improvement potential has been identified (and can be demonstrated) and it would therefore be appropriate to return to an earlier stage.
