Refurbishment works (Phase III) to Killarney House, Killarney, Co Kerry

Killarney House is a Protected Structure. It was formerly a coach house and stables and was converted into a residence with stores circa 1915. This 18th century building is in the form of a courtyard and is 2 storeys high. It is proposed to adapt the building to become a Visitor Centre for the Killarney National Park. The former Gardens will be recreated within the 35 acre site in a separate contract. The building and site will have universal accessibility. The Phase 3 works will comprise of the following; 1. Refurbishment of Killarney House. This work will be mainly internal refurbishment to include the existing stores as Exhibition Galleries.(Installation of the exhibition will be a separate contract). 2. Refurbishment of existing early 20th century period rooms to include the Ground floor reception rooms, corridors, staircase and First floor former bedrooms. 3. Provision of two evacuations lifts and staircases from ground to first floor level. 4. Provision of new single storey Extension building to provide visitor facilities to include a new Temporary exhibition area, an Audio visual / Multipurpose room and toilet facilities. 5. Resurfacing of area within courtyard and provision of new external ramped access pathway and steps to lead to a new entrance forecourt area to be located on the East side .6. Installation of new M& E services to modern standards. The building’s footprint is approximately 41.7m x 33.3m and will provide 1350 sq.m approx Gross floor area.The proposed Extension will provide 339 sq.m Gross floor area.
