East Galway Landfill Site - Enabling Works for Landfill Re-opening

Tender description

Nine cells have been constructed at the facility. Cells 1 to 7 have been filled with waste from December 2005 until March 2013. To date, approximately 820,000 tonnes of material have been placed into the engineered cells comprising MSW and material for recovery / interim capping. Cells 1 to 7 have been capped with temporary geocomposite capping material and a section of Cell 1 has had synthetic permanent capping materials installed. Cells No. 8 and 9 have been constructed, but no waste has yet been placed in these cells. In order to prepare the landfill to recommence acceptance of waste, a number of specific items of infrastructural work need to be executed at the facility. The necessary works in the contract are summarised in the list of works packages below:- 1. Cell Preparation - Remove Cell 8 bund, Reinstate Cell structure; 2. Cell Construction Quality Assurance (CQA) - Leak location Testing (Cell 8 & 9), Repairs if necessary; 3. Cell Access - Install Road access / initial tipping location; 4. Leachate Prevention - Install Bund/Swail to divert rainwater from Cell 8; 5. Litter Control - Erect litter netting around perimeter of waste cells; 6. Gas Management: Ring Main Extension - Extend ring main, including installation of KO Pots and Pumps (OPTIONAL); 7. Gas Management: LLDPE flap installation - Install LLDPE Flap to prevent oxygen ingress when extracting gas from cell drainage layer; 8. Cells 5 & 7 Leachate Pumps - Install 2 No. new leachate pumps; 9. Container Stabilisation - Stabilisation of existing 40ft container; 10. Non-specified works in the cells - Rates for similar works at landfill Manager's requirements (OPTIONAL). It is a condition of Contract Award that Tenderers are in a position to commence construction work within 10 days of the tender date. A site visit is essential for the pricing of these works.
