Substructure Repair Works at Southend Pier

Tender description

Southend Borough Council requires a contractor to carry out substructure repair works on Southend Pier. The Pier is a Grade 2 Listed Building and extends out to sea approx. 1.3 miles. The contract will consist of the removal and replacement of failed structural elements on the pier as part of on-going maintenance and will include repairs to the main beams, deck beams, pile caps, cross bracing and bracing rails. Formed of wrought/cast iron and steel, failed members are to be removed and replaced with equivalent steel members. Due to tidal patterns the lower deck will be below the sea at high tides and careful planning and co-ordination will be required to maximise opportunities to undertake work at high tides. The successful contractor will be responsible for the safe supervision and coordination of all works including civil, structural and design and associated works. We will require suitable contractors with experience in the following: i) Working in the marine environment and above tidal water; ii) Experiences of dealing with MMO and similar licencing; iii) Dealing with environmental issues, such as managing waste water (PPG5); iv) Experience of working with steel and the fabrication of steel elements. v) Experience of designing temporary works and acting as a Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC).” vi) Experience of working on listed buildings Please submit your request to tender no later than 12 noon on Wednesday 8th July 2015.
