Tender description

<b>Barrow Waterfront </b> The Barrow Waterfront project aims to contribute to regeneration of an area of former docklands on Barrow's Waterfront for future use as industrial and/or commercial land. Situated on Barrow Island and owned by Cumbria County Council, the development site has Ramsden Dock to the East and the Walney Channel to the West. The site is immediately north of the Ramsden Business Park which is host to a BAE systems development. The area available for development is approximately 2 ha which is predominantly brownfield/ dockland. The site is adjacent to historic and new allotments used by the local community. <b>The project:</b> The aim of the project is to create a new allotment development to relocate allotment holders currently occupying the area of historic allotments. This forms part of an <b>advanced work package</b> prior to main site remediation works which is being tendered separately. The site has a resident population of important reptiles, the management of which is an important part of the wider project. The value of the works will be in the region of £0.4 million and the contract will be NEC Option B. The key components of the works will be: · Earthworks including import of suitable materials to achieve site levels appropriate for development and as growing material; · Soil Management across the site including excavation and processing of soil for landscape areas and dealing with contaminated land; · Construction of an allotment access track; · Construction of allotment fences, gates, hard standings, sheds and paths; · Landscaping; · Utilities Installation - Installation of water supply; · Maintenance of existing reptile facing exclusion zones; · Managing Public access into existing allotments; · Assisting historic allotment holders to relocate to the new allotments i.e. movement of equipment (List is not exclusive) The contractor will be expected to act as principal contractor on the site. Works will involve working within a sensitive area for biodiversity and within a reptile fence boundary.
