Refurbishment of former Convent and School to provide a New Primary Care Centre and HSE Offices in Ballyshannon, Co. Donegal

The proposed project is the refurbishment of the existing St. Catherine’s Convent and adjacent school building to provide a new Primary Care Centre and Offices for the HSE which, when completed will have a total net area of 2838.7m2. The offices will be located in the convent building, while the primary care centre will be located in the adjacent school building and the new link building being constructed to provide a link between both buildings. The existing convent building is a three storey, stone clad building constructed in (circa) 1883 which is also a protected structure. The proposed refurbishment will include for a number of conservation works, removal of asbestos containing material and the treatment and eradication of dry rot. When complete the building will have a total net area of 1410.9m2. The existing school building is a three storey building constructed in the early 1960’s and is of concrete construction. The refurbishment works will include for part demolition of this building and the construction of the new four storey link building (664.4m2 net) which when complete, will house the new Primary Care Centre with a total net area of 1427.8m2. The proposed site works will include the provision of new drainage, including attenuation, retaining wall structures, roads, footpaths, ramps, carparking and lighting and realignment of the existing stone boundary wall. The site is located between an existing residential care facility and a busy national school and both entrances to the site are shared with the other services
