Technology Contracts and Tenders

A technology tender covers government technology programmes, digital and technology initiatives, technology infrastructure work and information technology contracts, generally at the level of a strategy, platform or managed service rather than a single item. It does not include contracts where a supplier's own name or an unrelated framework happens to contain the word "technology", such as further education colleges named after the subject.

Technology tenders are the broader umbrella: government technology services, digital transformation programmes and technology infrastructure work that often sit above or alongside a specific IT contract. Central government departments, local councils, NHS trusts, police forces and universities all run technology contracts, most often for digital transformation programmes, technology infrastructure, identity and access management, and wider technology services and solutions work.

Technology contracts are published on Find a Tender and Contracts Finder, alongside devolved portals in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Many run through frameworks rather than as one-off tenders, and Stotles' 2026 Supplier Survey found 44% of suppliers now use frameworks as their main route into public sector work.

Technology tenders map most often to CPV codes 72000000 (IT services: consulting, software development, Internet and support), 72222300 (Information technology services) and 48000000 (Software package and information systems). Buyers frequently combine two or three of these on a single notice.
