Tender description

The States of Guernsey, Environment and Infrastructure Committee is seeking expressions of interest from Guernsey Driving Instructors who would be interested in undertaking driving ability assessments. The driving instructor would work alongside local Occupational Therapists to complete the assessments. The approach is positive and assists people with medical conditions and disabilities to learn to drive, continue to drive or return to driving after illness. Applicants must have a minimum of two years’ experience and be on the register of Guernsey Driving Instructors. Currently there are c.20 assessments per year lasting approximately 2 hours per assessment. These are usually undertaken during the middle of the day on weekdays. The assessments may need to be carried out in either a manual or automatic ‘B’ category vehicle. We are aware that most instructors currently have manual vehicles, however, there is the opportunity for the successful instructor to take on the automatic vehicle (2021 Kia Picanto X-line) that was previously used by Guernsey DriveAbility. This vehicle is dual control and comes with a number of vehicle adaptations that can be added. The successful applicant would also be able to use this vehicle for normal day-to-day tuition; however, the instructor would be responsible for the storage, servicing and insurance of the vehicle whilst contracted to undertake the assessments.
