Laois County Council Require tenders for the Design and Supervision of an Enhanced Visitor Interpretive Experience at the Rock of Dunamase site in County Laois

The Rock of Dunamase is one of the most striking heritage sites in Ireland. It has a complex history including Viking raids and Norman conquest. The site itself dominates the surrounding landscape adding to its sense of significance. The objective of this project is to enhance the visitor experience of the Rock of Dunamase site bringing the story, landscape, culture and history to life in an informative, entertaining and accessible way. The focus of Laois County Council is that in addition to enhancing the overall visitor experience, it is essential that the complex history of the site is communicated to visitors. N.B. Although some digital elements (AR and VR) are welcome as part of overall design proposals for this project, Laois County council feel this site lends itself more strongly towards physical interpretive assets due to its relatively remote, and rugged setting. This project is part of a larger 'Rock of Dunamase Carpark and Interpretation Project', which is co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union through the EU Just Transition Fund. The new carpark being developed by Laois County Council in combination with a laneway leading up to the main entrance of the Rock of Dunamase site will provide the areas for any proposed visitor interpretive assets. This project should be delivered in two phases: PHASE 1. Design: To provide a detailed design for an enhanced visitor interpretive experience at the Rock of Dunamase. PHASE 2. Supervise: To oversee the implementation of the Phase 1 design (fabrication and installation of physical assets, and production of any other proposed design elements).
