Tender description

The Forth Road Bridge spans the Firth of Forth and carries the A90 Trunk Road between Fife and Lothian. The bridge consists of two approach viaducts and a suspension bridge which forms the main section of the structure. The bridge carries two 7.3m wide carriageways and two 4.6m wide footway/cycleways. The footway/cycleways help operate a one-way vehicle access for all bridge staff and contractors whilst safely managing public access to the structure. BEAR Scotland are looking to appoint a specialist sub-contractor to design, install and commission a suitable horizontal bi-folding automated gate system within existing site constraints. This system must be capable of being operated remotely from the Control Room located at South Queensferry depot and remain operational during high wind events given exposed location of the structure. The works involve removal of existing redundant barriers and associated services, construction of new foundations and installation of associated automated gates at 4No. locations with provision of new ducting, cabling and connection to existing services. This will require bespoke fabrication design to consider site constraints at each location. All gates are to be commissioned prior to works being completed, with reinstatement to footway local to works. Sub-contractors must have appropriate experience of similar technically complicated works and with demonstrable experience of industry standards such BS EN 13241:2003+A2:2016. The final tender will be assessed on the basis of a quality mark of 40% and price 60%.
